Lockdown day #75

Another nice sunny day - temperature up to 24 degrees - I had to put sun block on for the first time this year as my legs were cooking nicely.

Today should have been "A Night at the Musicals" at Rochdale Citadel - I gave my apologies since I was going to the "Chairman's Charity Dance" at St Matthews Church Hall in Stretford - both were cancelled due to COVID-19.

The reason for the Charity Dance was because our Chairman is 65 today!  Instead I visited him and had a nice socially distanced natter with some food in his garden (it was where my legs were cooking) ... so the day wasn't totally wasted.

I did some shopping at Asda - as is my wont on a Saturday (to get the meat for Sunday lunch), and didn't have to queue long - Asda actually felt quite empty.  Perhaps people were sitting in their gardens rather than shopping.

When I got home I did some work on a book, and then watched a film called "The Last Year" - telling the tale of Christian [lack of] love at a Bible college in America.  Some of the behaviour of the Dean and his misquoting of the Bible were scandalous - why so many Christians believe in a God of punishment I do not believe .... I believe in a God of love.    The film, however, had a lovely ending.

Lockdown day #49

Today - May 4th - is International Star Wars Day.

Cyprus issued a stamp today to mark the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.  I feel so much gratitude to the nurses (and other medical professionals) who are trying to beat this virus, and so much sadness for so many of them that have succumbed to the virus.  Thank you Cyprus for recognising people who so often get taken for granted.

I watched the Gay Gordons Online Dance Class, and watched a performance of Shakespeare's "Two Noble Kinsmen" on YouTube.

I read some more of my book, and watched episode 3 of Fortunes of War. 

Timeline - Monday 12th August 2013

Today was our usual Gay Gordons dance class.  One of the dances tried out was my newly written dance to commemorate 60th anniversary of the Coronation - The Court of the Queen. 

The dance is essence is a mirror reel of 3 on the opposite sides, leading down (the lady on the man's right) acknowledging the 2nd and 3rd couples, leading up to the top, turning 1 and a half times with 2nd couple, and 1 and half times with 3rd couple, 3 hands of rights and lefts and setting.  The picture is taken during the 3 hands of rights and lefts.

The Gay Gordons were on duty again today at New York New York's fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Society.  We were not the elite team, but we had fun anyway. 

Timeline - Monday 5th August 2013

The weather today was far from charming; periods of heavy downpours in place of sun.  I washed my work trousers last night and ironed them dry this morning before going to work.  On the way home from work a bus splashed puddle water all over me, and so they got a wash for the second day running.

Not sunny but still humid, I put on my shorts to go to dance class.  We did amongst others Coopers Wife 2, which is a fun dance.  I paid my membership for 2013-2014; one job out of the way.

Timeline Sunday 28 July - Peel Park Picnic

Today I went to the Peel Park picnic.  Mostly because one of my dance groups - the Gay Gordons - were performing.  The weather was a touch inclement, but it was good to spend time with some of my friends.  The dances I took part in were "Highland Fair", "Domino Five", "Snowball" and "Mairi's Wedding".  The audience certainly seemed appreciative. 

I got back home just a few moments before the heavens opened, and stayed in for the rest of the night.
